Automotive, Internally Mounted Wheelchair Lifts & Mobility Scooter Lifts
Two Types of Interior Lifts:
Hoist Lifts - The hoist type wheelchair lift & mobility scooter lift works similar to how a crane would operate. The lift has an arm which is called the boom. The boom extends outward from the base unit and it uses a nylon lifting strap as a lift point. The boom also rotates in and out of the vehicle so a mobility device can be picked up from the rear or side of the vehicle and placed inside. The booms rotation feature can either be power or manually operated based on the model of lift chosen. However, the lifting feature, despite which lift you chose, will always be power operated.
Hybrid Lifts - A hybrid lift is a type of wheelchair lift or mobility scooter lift that operates both like an interior and exterior mounted lift. These lifts provide the ease of loading your mobility device via a drive-on platform that's found on most external lifts, and storing your device inside your vehicle.
In order to use an automotive wheelchair or mobility scooter lift, users must be able to perform these five tasks under their own power, without assistance.
- The user must be able to safely walk, under their own power, from the front of their vehicle to the rear.
- The user must be able to stand, under their own power, up to 3 minutes while the lift performs its operation.
- The user must be able to attach the lifting strap to their mobility device. This operation may require the user to bend slightly and use hand dexterity.
- The user must be able to operate a handheld remote control pendant to operate the lift.
- User must be able to physically guide your mobility device as needed during the lifting process to avoid interference.
