On the Power Fold-Out XL, Toyota Sienna wheelchair accessible van, the vehicles sliding side doors and fold-out ramp are both power for ease of operation. By activating the open or close command on the vehicle’s factory key-fob or use of interior switches, the sliding door will open or close and deploy or stow the on-board wheelchair ramp. In an event of power failure, the ramp has a backup power system or it can easily be operated manually.
The ramp on the Power Fold-Out XL, wheelchair accessible van is 29.25 inches wide and is made of lightweight aluminum. It has a load capacity of 1000 lbs. The ramps surface is also powder coated with a durable non-skid finish and it’s slotted to reduce the accumulation of debris inside the vehicle.
In an effort to reduce ramp angle and make it easier to enter and exit the vehicle, all BraunAbility®, Power Fold-Out XL handicap vans feature an automatic, integrated “kneeling” system. Once the deploy ramp command is initiated, the on-board computer activates an actuator mounted on the rear passenger side of the vehicles suspension. Once engaged, the actuator lowers the van’s ramp side, reducing ramp angle. This option can also be turned off or on with a switch on the dash if so desired.
As part of the wheelchair van conversion process, the floor of the Power Fold-Out XL, Toyota Sienna handicap wheelchair van is lowered up to 14 inches from the firewall (just behind the engine) to the rear axle. This lowering of the floor does two things: First, it allows for a taller door entry of 56 inches, creating unobstructed entry. Second, it provides the wheelchair user a direct line-of-sight while either driving or riding as a passenger.
In 2017, Braun upgraded its’ XT models to the all-new XL wheelchair conversion. The XL conversion features an additional 6 inches of floor space behind the front seats than earlier models. This additional space allows the BraunAbility®, Power Fold-Out XL handicap van to accommodate today’s larger chairs.
Standard on the Power Fold-Out XL, Toyota Sienna handicap wheelchair accessible van, the front seats are easily removed. This removal allows access for a wheelchair user to either drive from his or her chair or ride as a passenger up-front. The seats are easily unlocked at the base and rolled away for easy storage, and can be reinstalled anytime.
