Automatic Door And Wheelchair Ramp Operation

VMI’s Chrysler Pacifica & Voyager wheelchair van Northstar conversion features a patented, ultra-low, in-floor power ramp system that allows safe entry and exit.

The ramp conveniently stows and deploys from underneath the floor, creating additional interior space and maneuverability for all passengers.

The ramp is 30 inches wide and made from a high-strength aluminum alloy that can support loads up to 1000 lbs.

Auto Kneeling Feature Reduces The Ramps Angle

To reduce the vehicle’s ramp angle and make it easier for the wheelchair user to enter and exit, the VMI Chrysler Pacifica & Voyager wheelchair van features an integrated “kneeling” system. The kneeling system activates when the deploy ramp command is initiated from the key fob or set of interior switches.

Once activated, the onboard computer engages an electric actuator mounted on the vehicle’s rear passenger side. The job of the actuator is to lower the van’s ramp side, reducing the ramp angle. This option can also be turned off or on with a switch on the dash for deployment on an incline.

With the kneeling system engaged, the ramp angle is reduced to nine degrees.

Removable Front Seats

Obstacle-free front seats on the VMI Chrysler Pacifica & Voyager handicap van allow easy removal and installation. This option aids in creating multiple seating arrangements for wheelchair users and passengers.

The space inside is large enough to accommodate two wheelchairs side-by-side if needed.

An exclusive on the VMI Pacifica & Voyager handicap van – the front seats are interchangeable to their positions. This feature allows a driver and wheelchair passenger to switch positions or vice versa without sacrificing safety.

Corrosion Resistant Flooring

All VMI Northstar wheelchair van conversions are made with galvaneal steel flooring. These floors are also E-coated for optimal rust and corrosion prevention after many years of use.

ParkSmart™ Handicap Parking Aid & Deterrent

ParkSmart™  is a patented feature found exclusively on select VMI wheelchair-accessible vehicles. It automatically alerts careless drivers who may be parking too close, blocking ramp access, on a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

When a wheelchair user exits the vehicle, the ParkSmart™ system will activate within 30 seconds. Once engaged, the system monitors the passenger side of the vehicle for any objects that come within the acceptable distance of the vehicle that would inhibit the wheelchair user from entering their vehicle upon return.

The system uses the same technology found on rear collision systems of other vehicles that detect object proximity. The difference between the ParkSmart™ system from VMI is that it notifies those outside the vehicle. Once it detects the compromised ramp clearance, it uses an audible alert and recorded message. This message repeatedly advises the other vehicle’s driver that they parked too close and to please move their vehicle.

Headroom And Lowered Floor

The floor is lowered from behind the firewall to the third-row seat on the VMI Northstar Chrysler Pacifica wheelchair van conversion. This drop in the floor creates a usable door opening height of 56 inches, making the VMI Northstar Chrysler Pacifica handicap-accessible wheelchair van suitable for even the tallest seated wheelchair users.

The VMI Chrysler Pacifica handicap van is one of the market’s roomiest, domestic wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
