Dodge Caravan Handicap Accessible Wheelchair Vans

The Dodge Grand Caravan wheelchair van from VMI can be ordered with four different types of ramp deployment systems, making it one of the most diverse and affordable wheelchair van conversions.

1. The Northstar wheelchair van conversion from VMI features a power, in-floor ramp system. The ramp deploys and stores within the floor of the vehicle creating an unobstructed entry and exit.

2. The Summit handicap van conversion from VMI utilizes a power fold-out ramp system that folds, deploys and stores at the entrance of the passenger side door. An added feature of the fold-out ramp systems from VMI are the higher side-rails. These taller side-rails allow for safer transitions in and out of the vehicle and is the most popular choice of wheelchair users.

3. The Northstar E wheelchair van conversion from VMI utilizes a manual in-floor ramp system. This conversion is designed for wheelchair users who travel with a full-time caregiver. The ramp is easily stored and deployed using a patented ramp-on-a-stick design, and yes, it is very easy to operate!

4. The Verge II E rear-entry mobility van conversion is VMIs newest product offering and it too is designed for those wheelchair users that travel with a dedicated caregiver. The rear-entry design helps eliminate parking issues and allows for transport of users with larger or longer wheelchairs. The rear-entry design also allows for additional seating configurations for ambulatory passengers.

VMI Dodge Northstar Wheelchair Van Conversion

Dodge Grand Caravan Northstar wheelchair van from VMI

The VMI Dodge Northstar mobility van utilizes a full-power, in-floor ramp design to create an open, unobstructed interior space for the wheelchair user and his/her passengers and can comfortably seat up to 5+1.

The Northstar conversion is engineered with 1.5-inch higher ground clearance than its competitors, to reduce scraping, and its advanced noise-reducing technology creates a ride that is quiet and comfortable.

Automatic Door And Ramp Operation

The Northstar wheelchair van conversion features a patented, ultra-low, in-floor power ramp system that allows for safe entry and exit. The ramp conveniently stows and deploys from underneath the floor, creating additional interior space and maneuverability for the wheelchair user and his/her passengers. The ramp is made from a high strength aluminum alloy, and can support loads up to 800 lbs. The ramp utilizes a SURE DEPLOY™ backup system to ensure the ramp will stow and deploy, even during an electrical failure.

Removable Front Seats

The obstacle-free front seats allow for easy removal, creating multiple seating arrangements for the wheelchair user and passengers. The space is large enough to accommodate two wheelchairs side-by-side if needed.

Corrosion Resistant Floor

All VMI Chrysler Northstar wheelchair van conversions have floors that are E-coated for optimal rust and corrosion prevention.

Headroom And Lowered Floor

The floor from just behind the firewall to the third row seat in the Dodge Northstar wheelchair van is dropped 11-inches to provide the needed headroom for the wheelchair user throughout the vehicle. This drop in the floor creates a usable door opening height of 55-inches, which makes the Northstar conversion a suitable choice for even the tallest seated wheelchair users.

VMI Dodge Summit Wheelchair Van Conversion

Dodge Grand Caravan Summit handicap accessible van from VMI

Built on the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Summit wheelchair van conversion from VMI utilizes a durable, fold-out ramp system that provides a reliable deployment. Equipped with 2-inch high side rails, this fold-out ramp provides a safe operating environment for most all wheelchair users up to 54-inches in seated height.

Through advanced engineering, the VMI Summit mobility van minimizes road noise while still incorporating all of Chrysler’s most popular features and offerings. The 1.5-inch higher ground clearance over its competitors reduces scraping.

Automatic Door And Ramp Operation

The Summit handicap van conversion features a fold-out ramp design that features 2-inch high side rails to accommodate manual and power chair users, and supports loads up to 800 lbs. Both the doors and ramp are power, and are easily deployed from the factory remote or from the numerous interior mounted switches. In case of power failure, the ramp and doors are easily operated manually.

Auto Kneeling Feature

In an effort to reduce ramp angle and make it easier for the wheelchair user, the VMI wheelchair van conversion features an automatic, integrated “kneeling” system. When a deploy ramp command is initiated, the onboard computer activates an actuator that is mounted on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Once engaged, the actuator works to lower the vans ramp side, thus reducing ramp angle.  This option can also be turned off or on with a switch on the dash.

Removable Front Seats

The obstacle free front seats allow for easy removal, creating multiple seating arrangements for the wheelchair user and passengers. The space is large enough to accommodate two wheelchairs side-by-side if needed.

Corrosion Resistant Floor

All VMI Summit wheelchair van conversions have floors that are E-coated for optimal rust and corrosion prevention.

Headroom And Lowered Floor

The floor from just behind the firewall to the third row seat in the Summit wheelchair van conversion is dropped 11-inches to provide the needed headroom for the wheelchair user throughout the vehicle. This drop in the floor creates a usable door opening height of 54-inches, which makes the Summit conversion a suitable choice for most wheelchair users.

It is the only caregiver vehicle to offer front-seat wheelchair access, a manual in-floor ramp that requires no bending or lifting, and seating for up to seven passengers.

Mid-Row Seating

Single and double flip-up mid-row seats are available to match OEM interior and provide multiple seating options not found in other side entry wheelchair vans.

Corrosion Resistant Floor

All Dodge Northstar E handicap conversion vans have floors that are E-coated for optimal rust and corrosion prevention.

Headroom

VMI Dodge VERGE II-E Rear-Entry Wheelchair Van Conversion

Dodge Grand Caravan Verge II-E rear-entry wheelchair accessible van from VMI

The all-new Verge II E rear-entry wheelchair van from VMI provides wheelchair users who travel with a caregiver a viable alternative to the typical side-entry conversion. The rear-entry design aids in eliminating virtually all issues with parking, as additional space next to the vehicle is not necessary to deploy the ramp mechanism.

New features include: Newly designed, dual locking manual ramp system to prevent ramp rattle; 56-inch tall opening; 32-inch ramp width; Duel OEM mid-row flip & fold seating; 750 lbs. ramp capacity; Added rear crash intrusion bar (VMI Defender); Interior & ramp lighting.

The rear-entry wheelchair van design makes this vehicle compatible with virtually every type and size wheelchair and scooter and the seating configuration is adjustable.

Retains Ride Quality And Height

The wheelchair van conversion process involved in building a rear entry vehicle like the Verge II-E Rear-Entry eliminates compromising the integrity of the original structure of the vehicle or ground clearance. This process results in a more factory true-ride and handling.

Seating Options

When it comes to wheelchair van seating options, the rear-entry models have a much larger selection of configurations. Standard the vehicle features OEM or secondary flip & fold seating in the mid-row position and even flip & fold 3rd row bench seating. However, other seating options are available, contact mobility consultant for details.

VMI Dodge APEX Handicap Accessible Wheelchair Van

Dodge Grand Caravan APEX wheelchair van conversion from VMI offers affordability

The Dodge Grand Caravan, VMI APEX mobility van is designed for those who travel with a dedicated caregiver as a lower cost alternative that still provides many of the options found on higher priced wheelchair van conversions. For starters, the APEX features a power fold-out ramp system with a door opening height of 54.5-inches.

This larger door opening height helps accommodate users who sit taller in their chairs. In addition, the new APEX from VMI includes a removable passenger front seat. Unlike most of its competitors, this feature allows riders the opportunity to ride up front from the comfort of their own wheelchair.

Automatic Door And Ramp Operation

The APEX conversion features a 28.75-inch wide power fold-out wheelchair ramp system with 2.5-inch high side rails for a safer entry and exit. The ramp is made from a high strength aluminum alloy, and can support loads up to 800 lbs. NOTE: The power ramp can be operated manually in an event of a power failure/emergency.

Headroom And Lowered Floor

The floor of the VMI APEX wheelchair van is what we call in the industry a partial conversion. Instead of being a full-cut, from the firewall of the vehicle to the 3rd row seat, the floor on the APEX is only lowered in the center section and passenger side front. This partial-cut is one of the reasons why the APEX is considered a conversion option for those who travel with a caregiver. A partial-cut conversion does not allow a wheelchair user to drive from their chair.

At maximum center, the drop of the floor is 11.5-inches thus creating 58.5-inches of center interior height, more than most models on the market today.

Corrosion Resistant Materials

All VMI wheelchair accessible vehicles feature their RustDender™ proprietary process and coating of the conversion parts to help mitigate rust; this is something most competitors do not offer.
