Auto Kneeling Feature

In an effort to reduce ramp angle and to make it easier for a wheelchair user, especially a manual wheelchair user to enter and exit the vehicle, every power BraunAbility® handicap van / wheelchair accessible van feature a fully-automatic, integrated “kneeling” system. This system engages when the ramp deployment command is given. Once the ramp deploy command is given, the on-board computer activates an electric actuator that is mounted on the rear passenger side of the vehicle’s suspension. This actuator works to lower the wheelchair vans ramp side closer to the ground, thus reducing ramp angle to only 9.9 degrees.  This option can also be turned off with a switch on the dash for situations when it isn’t necessary, such as loading and exiting to curbs or an elevated surface. 

Lowered Floor Wheelchair Conversion

As part of the conversion process in a wheelchair van / handicap van, the floor of the is lowered 14 inches from the firewall (just behind the engine) to the rear axle. This lowering of the floor does two things: First, it allows for a taller door entry height of 55 inches to allow for a taller door entry to accommodate wheelchair users. This lowering of the floor does two things: First, it allows for a taller door-entry height of 56 inches to allow for a larger, taller entry.
