Edit

When it comes to the types of automotive hand controls, the Push / Twist mechanical type is similar to operating a motorcycle. The design lowers fatigue and cramping or longer more comfortable drives.

How They Work

The push/twist system works using a horizontally installed handle for easy grip. This handle can be installed on either the right or left of the steering wheel. To accelerate, the operator simply twists the handle like a throttle on a motorcycle, and to brake the user simply pushes the handle forward toward the dashboard away from the driver.

There is a secondary lever on the handle to enhance throttling that allows for a more comfortable driving experience on longer trips.

Benefits in Design

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, the push / twist type of hand control provides these additional benefits:

  • Reduced finger and thumb strain
  • Limited modification to vehicle
  • Reduced fatigue and cramping
  • Increased brake pedal feel and throttle response
  • Easier braking
